Wo stehen wir in und mit der Kirche heute, 30 Jahre nach der Friedlichen Revolution in Ostdeutschland? question is at the centre of the proceedings of the conference of the Society for Protestant Theology, which in 2019 was held in Leipzig for good reason. An essential point of discussion in this volume is the penitential speech of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany, which reflects the situation of the Church of the GDR in a specific way. It also raises the question of the co-responsibility of the Western Churches, for example regarding the "occupational ban" on GDR pastors who left for the West.
